Music Coach

Applicants must be graduate students and/or experienced professional performers/teachers on a woodwind, brass, string, percussion, or keyboard instrument and demonstrate positive leadership and communication skills.
Staff experience at La Honda Music Camp is preferred.
Music Coaches are part of the Camp Artistic Team and are under the direct supervision of the Assistant Camp Director/Camp Director. Music Coaches may be asked to assist Counselors/CITs with their musical responsibilities.
Typical duties include but are not limited to:
• Adjudicate placement and seating auditions
• Work with Chamber Music Coordinator to prepare music for chamber groups
• Coach sectionals daily
• Sit in and rehearse with the campers in the bands/orchestras
• Coach chamber music and/or jazz improvisation daily
• Teach 1–2 elective courses in the daily curriculum
• Perform in the staff orchestra and/or jazz band
• Perform in the staff chamber music groups
• Organize rehearsal setup
• Coordinate distribution ensemble parts
• Assist conductors with music copying and rehearsal logistics, if necessary
• Assist and sing in camp choir
• Perform in the evening camp activities/concerts
• Assist with stage crew and performance logistics for all camp performances
• Assist with some recreation and social activities, as assigned by Recreation Directors
• Act as substitute counselor, if a counselor is not able to fulfill their duties
