Over the course of six decades, La Honda Summer Music Camp has almost 12,000 graduates of our summer music academy. Many of our students have gone on to great success in musical professions.

â—‹ Greg Brown - Northgate High School Jazz band - 5 time winner of the Next Generation Jazz Festival. Jazz Educator of the Year by the California Music Educators Association (CMEA) Bay Section in 2014. Been a part of camp as a camper and staff member for decades.

â—‹ Gary Bovyer - Clarinet - Hundreds of movie and TV credits. Clarinetist Gary Bovyer, “a virtuosic and passionate soloist” according to the Los Angeles Times, is principal clarinetist of the Long Beach Symphony Orchestra, the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, Orange County’s Mozart Classical Orchestra, the Los Angeles Master Chorale Sinfonia and the Santa Monica Symphony. â—‹ Andy Martin - Probably the most in demand trombone player in the music business today playing on countless recordings, movie and television soundtracks. Guest artist on multiple Grammy award winning albums. Long standing member of Gordon Goodwin's Big Phat Band, Hollywood Bowl Orchestra and many others. Website

â—‹ Dave Eshelman - Conductor, trombonist, arranger, and composer. Director Emeritus of Jazz Studies at California State University, East Bay. Dave led the CSU East Bay Jazz Ensemble for many years. He has conducted the California CMEA All State Jazz Band, the Northern California Grammy In The Schools All Star Big Band and numerous district and county honor jazz bands. â—‹ Scott Martin - Many saxophone, woodwind and composition credits. 9 CDs as a solo artist. Currently on tour with the band WAR. Over 14 years with the Poncho Sanchez Latin Jazz Band winning a Grammy with the band. Been a part of camp as a camper and staff member for decades. Website

â—‹ Stan Martin - Lead and solo trumpet with Barry Manilow, Donna Summer, Tom Jones, Poncho Sanchez, Tom Kubis and many others....  Active L.A. studio musician. 2019 Music Camp Director. Been a part of camp as a camper and staff member for decades

â—‹ Daniel Zinn - Director of jazz studies at CSUEB. Acclaimed saxophonist, compose, educator and published author. Director of Jazz Studies at the California State University East Bay, the Director of the San Francisco Jazz Festival High School All Star Combo, on the faculty of the University of California at Berkeley, The California Jazz Conservatory, and taught at the Brubeck Institute.

â—‹ Greg Sudmeier - CLIO Award-winning music producer, music director, arranger, symphonic/choral director, and educator. He is the Music Director-Conductor for the Diablo Ballet in Walnut Creek, CA and he has also been the Music Director-Conductor for the Fremont Symphony Orchestra. Been a part of camp as a camper and staff member for decades. Website

â—‹ Bev Johnson - Acclaimed flutist and educator. With a Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts in flute performance and a teaching credential in music from California State University, East Bay; Bev has been teaching private lessons for over 30 years and in the Alameda and Hayward school districts for over 27 years. She currently teaches applied flute and community band classes at Chabot College and has conducted the Easy Bay Symphonic Band since 1993. Been a part of camp as a camper and staff member for decades.

â—‹ Joy Julks – Piano and Guitar professor, The Conservatory of Music at Cinco Ranch. LA based bassist having played with Pharaoh Sanders, Shelia E and many others. Camper and staff member.

â—‹ Dinny McGuire - Longest running Ringmaster in Ringling Bros Circus history. Started the tradition of the 'Singing Ringmaster'. Was a camper, counselor and staff member for many, many years.

 

â—‹ Elizabeth Goodfellow - Drums, Vocals, Composer. Goodfellow appeared on two episodes of America’s Got Talent and subsequently relocated to Los Angeles. Since moving to LA, she has released two albums of her original music (Silly Sun, 2018 and Sea Ranch, 2019), recorded with artists including boygenius (Phoebe Bridgers, Julien Baker, and Lucy Dacus), and toured with Iron & Wine and Madison Cunningham. â—‹ Kristen Strom - Saxes, Woodwinds. In addition to her numerous solo albums, she has recorded more than 40 CDs with various jazz and pop artists. Kristen is on the faculty of Santa Clara University, West Valley College and the Stanford Jazz Workshop. Camper and staff member. Website
